I have my VM data in a .pvm file from my old computer, but when I got the new MB Pro didn't set up a bootcamp partition. If I try to open the old VM, I get a message "The Boot Camp partition used by Hard Disk 1 is missing" - because there is no such partition. Is there a way to fix this without creating a Boot Camp partition (on my well-used machine on which I'd like to leave the SSD pretty much alone)? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, it is not possible. The .pvm file which you have copied from the old computer does not have any data. All your data is on your Bootcamp partition. Parallels Desktop was accessing the Bootcamp through the .pvm file. As there is no Bootcamp on your new Mac, you are getting this error. If you like to transfer Bootcamp to the new Mac refer to this article.
