    Hello,

I am getting a new computer and am trying to find out how to move my windows install over. Previously I had a partition on my disk dedicated to bootcamp. On my new system I would like to boot windows using Parallels from a disk image stored on the disk.

Will it be enough to use dd to make a copy of the partition and point Parallels at that?

    Thanks,
    -Steve

Hi SteveF4, am I right that you have a Mac with Windows on Boot Camp partition, and you'd like to move this Windows installation to a new Mac as a virtual machine? If yes, then simply use Import Boot Camp feature to create a VM based on your current Boot Camp installation.
Right-click (Control-click) the Boot Camp version of Windows in Control Center and choose Import Boot Camp (VM must be shutdown) > click Import. Once finished, Windows and all your data are imported from Boot Camp. Transfer this VM to a new Mac, choose "Moved" upon launching on a new Mac to keep the same hardware ID and MAC address (to preserve Windows activation).
