I have a copy of SQL Server Developer edition running on a developer VM within OSX. Within that running VM, I cannot access SQL Server via Sql Server Management Studio, I can however access it when I boot directly into it - it's a BootCamp image I use for both BC and Parallels.

I've tried connecting via IP from SSMS, but no joy as the SQL Server process won't start when hosted in a VM.

Can anyone help? Could the host be blocking the SQL port, if so how would I unblock this?

    Thanks

This issue was solved and was down to SQL Server installation using separate partitions for log and data. Parallels couldn't see either. Solution was to change the defaults
