My Host is 10.5.1. My Guest is Windows XP Pro.

Version 3.0 added the annoyance of associating some documents in OSX (Host) with Applications in Windows (Guest). For example, all Word documents now cause Firefox in Windows to launch. Excel documents will cause Win-Excel to launch. Neither of these behaviors are desired.

I cannot find any way in the Parallels VM editor or Guest Tools to disable and remove these associations.

How can I keep Parallels from launching when I try to open documents in OSX? At the VERY least is there some way to get Parallels to ASK before launching a virtual machine?

    Hello,

    please do the following:
    1. Start your VM.
    2. In menubar select 'Applications' and under 'Smart Select' click 'Set to default'.
    3. Shut down your VM, but not the Parallels.
    4. Open 'Configuration Editor' of your VM ('Edit' -> 'Virtual machine') -> 'Shared Applications' tab.
    5. Uncheck everything there.

    Will it help?

    Best regards,
    Stacey
